  Baby Gray
Baby Gray recently came to the studio for his professional modeling debut. This adorable 11-month-old has the sweetest smile and the most beautiful blue-gray eyes!

Cheerios, I have learned since doing baby portraits, is THE snack of choice for most babies!

  Wendy + Andrew
I normally don't blog out of order, but I just had to post Wendy and Andrew's wedding which took place in Sonoma on September 22nd, the weekend of the Autumn Equinox. Just two days prior, I had photographed their engagement session. The couple, who reside in New York City, chose Sea Ranch for it's natural setting and 1960's architecture. Their wedding reminded me of the first wedding I had ever photographed, which was October 2000 in Mendocino, also on a bluff overlooking the ocean with overcast skies and breathtaking scenery. It was also the day I fell in love with photographing weddings.

You can also read more about Wendy and Andrew in The New York Times.

Ceremony + Reception: Sea Ranch Lodge
Bridal Dress: Nicole Miller
Bridal Shoes: Barney's New York
Wedding Invitations: I need to check with Wendy on the name of the company who did her invites. Their gorgeous! I know they're based in NYC.

Stay tuned for photos from the weddings of Sandra + TC and Linda + Yoch!

Andrew's aunt gave him these keepsakes, which he carried in his pocket during the ceremony.

Andrew's mom read a very touching poem from the works of Robert Frost.

  Wendy + Andrew
Wendy and Andrew are getting married this weekend, and today we got together to do an engagement session. The couple, who live in New York City, both enjoy architecture and nature, and chose the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park for their session. The museum dramatically integrates art, architecture and nature, so it was the perfect setting for this couple, and a wonderful treat for me, too, as I enjoy going to museums.

On September 8th, Trieu and Eric wed in beautiful Carmel Valley, one of my favorite venues which boasts the most beautiful light. I was happy to return here for yet another gorgeous wedding, along with some of my favorite vendors, too!

  Lori + Robert
My bride, Lori, is one of my faithful blog readers, so I know she'll be excited to see this post! Lori and Robert, who are getting married in a couple of weeks, just love the architecture around Nob Hill. They said it reminded them of New York, so that's where they chose to do their engagement session. This is not the first time I've worked with Lori and Robert, though. A while back they brought in their adorable miniature long-haired Dachshund, Morgen. He's a small dog with big attitude!

  Molly + Bjorn
Molly and Bjorn chose Pier 14 along the Embarcadero for their engagement session. This is the same place where Bjorn proposed to Molly -- how romantic! We were blessed with gorgeous light, some fog, and incredible views of the city and Bay Bridge. I can't wait for their wedding later this month in Napa!

  Joann + Tom
I thought Joann and Tom's gorgeous winery wedding on September 2nd would be the perfect images to try something different and demonstrate the use of textures, which is something I've been very drawn to lately. Textures give a soft, vintage look to an image. The textures can be very subtle, or more obvious. It's all about experimenting.

I was first inspired by Canadian photographer Jesh de Rox, who is known worldwide for his textured images. I saw Jesh's award-winning work earlier this year at the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) convention in Vegas. He encourages all photographers to explore using textures and add a personal depth to their own work. Any photographers interested in purchasing Jesh's textures set can do so by clicking here. Oh, and this is the first time I'm using his textures, so let me know what you think!

  Petey
I'm trying to catch up on my blogging as there is just so much to blog! Here's Petey, a one-year-old miniature Labradoodle who came to the studio recently. Labradoodles are a mixed breed dog, half Labrador Retriever and half Standard Poodle. While Labradoodles aren't yet an officially recognized breed by the American Kennel Club, that hasn't stopped thousands of people clamoring to get their hands on one of these designer "doodle" dogs. Here's a great resource for those who have a Poodle mix:

  I've been blog tagged!
There's a blog tag going around and I've been tagged by the following people: Eric Laurits (visually stunning work), Erin Vey (cool Seattle dog photographer), Lena Hyde (amazing kids portraits and one of the founders of Design Aglow) and Heather Whiting (shoots kids and weddings). Now I have to share eight things about myself. At first, I wasn't going to play because I tend to shy away from sharing too much personal stuff on the world wide web, but I finally gave in and here goes!

1. I'm a Gemini.
2. I used to drive a little red Fiero back in the 80's (what was I thinking?!).
3. I love rainy days and cuddling up with a good book or watching an old movie.
4. Before I was a photographer, I used to work in Manhattan and held a corporate job. Every day I'd walk through Times Square on the way to work and pass a billboard with a larger-than-life-size image of Mark Wahlberg (known as Marky Mark back in the day) sporting a six-pack and a pair of Calvin's. What a pleasant way to be greeted every morning!
5. I'm greatly inspired by the work of photographers Walker Evans and Elliott Erwitt.
6. I love going wine tasting and exploring around the Napa and Sonoma wine country. St. Clement, Clos Pegase, and Beringer, all in Napa, and Sebastiani in Sonoma, are my favorite wineries. I'm more into red wines and love a good glass of Merlot or Cab. Clos Pegase's reserve wines are great!
7. Although a city girl, born and raised, I love the great outdoors and dream of someday owning a villa in Tuscany or a ranch in Hawaii.
8. I used to stalk Scott Baio (Chachi from Happy Days) when I was about 12 years old. Scott had lived just a few blocks away from me when I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York. I'd go over to his house and oogle him while he played basketball with his friends.

Now that I've shared, it's my turn to tag the following eight people!

Gene Higa (my studio partner and rockin' destination wedding photographer)
Jules Bianchi (fabulous LA wedding photographer)
Jose Villa (my favorite "still shoots film!" photographer)
Alisha + Brook Todd (Oprah's favorite wedding photographers, and the brand new parents of a baby girl)
Ron Dawson (produces the coolest videos for brides and photographers on the planet)
Rachel LaCour (one of the most talented wedding photojournalists I know)
Augie Chang (sports the coolest hair and takes awesome wedding photographs)
Tomas Flint (one of New York's rising photography stars)

Ah, let's make that 9! I have too many I want to list. Here's one more:
John Griffin (next to Bogie, his dog, D-O-G, is the coolest canine around!)

  Richelle + Michael
Richelle and Michael, with their adorable pup, Kuma, as best dog, were married on September 1st in beautiful Half Moon Bay. If you've been reading my blog, you may remember Kuma, who I had photographed back in July (check the archives). Richelle chose the theme of "Chocolate!" for her wedding. They literally ended the evening on a sweet note, and instead of cake they had cupcakes!
